ASIC Searches (Internet)
ASIC Searches can be performed over the internet by going to the following URLs:
If the ACN number is known:

(go to step 4)
or
If the ACN number is
not
known:
http://www.abr.com.au/cgi-bin/abr/search_v2/ons_search

Perform search on given company/business name to find ACN Number.
2. Click Search to perform lookup on the given name.
The search page will open listing all similar spelt names.
Scroll down until you find an exact match.
Note that deregistered and RMVD (removed) names will appear - you should check with the instructing solicitor before searching on there.
If an exact match can not be found, also check this with the instructing solicitor.
3. Once the correct name is identified, click on the blue underlined
number
to search on that number:

If you have searched on a name the ACN number will appear in the box. If you've come straight this page, enter the ACN number in the box.
Click whether you want a current (normal) or historical search (check first with the instructing solicitor).
Enter the matter number in the relevant field.
WARNING:
By clicking Search you are charging our account for the search fee! Do not proceed unless you are 100% satisfied that you have the right ACN name/number. From this point on DO NOT press the back or forward buttons in internet explorer.
Click search
Enter the search cost into the searches book.
The search will now appear on your screen. Once it has finished downloading print the
search out.
5. Now create your notes document: See "Creating an Incoming Document" -
The description of the document should be along the lines of "Search of Proctors Administration Pty Ltd (ACN 009 238 126)" - include any extra details, eg if the search is an historical one.
Go to either ABR ACN known, or ABR ACN not known, depending on, obviously, whether or not the ACN is known or not.
Save the notes documents to get the documents number.
Go back to Internet Explorer and click File and Save As to save the search to your c:\windows\temp directory as document number.htm (eg 50367e.htm).
Go back to your notes document and in the red brackets field click File and Attach and attach the document you just saved (eg
50367e.htm).
